WHAT IS THE  NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an initiative of the Australian Government designed to financially support expenses related to disability. Enacted in 2013, the scheme became fully operational in 2020. Prior to the establishment of the NDIS, individuals with disabilities were typically placed in homes. However, the NDIS has ushered in a new era, granting people with disabilities the freedom to lead lives that mirror those of others. At the core of the DIS philosophy is the motto, "Choice & Control."

CHOICE AND CONTROL

CHOICE

  • WHO: Participants have the autonomy to choose the support workers they collaborate with.
  • WHEN: They have the freedom to decide when they receive support.
  • HOW: The manner in which they receive their supports is within their control.

CONTROL

They maintain control over their lives, with our role being that of a supportive presence. We should treat our participants with the same consideration as we would a friend, being there for them whenever they require our assistance!
